Welcome to my web page!
Offering a web page is my way of keeping everybody "in the loop". My hope is that this web page will help with communication between the home and me. The purpose of my web page is to assist with long term planning. It's a good idea for parents and students to visit the site at least once a week so you can be aware of upcoming assignment deadlines &/or tests. The web page isn't necessarily updated on a daily basis so specific details for daily assignments such as page numbers etc may not be included. Unit tests and deadlines for major assignments will always be shown so preparation and organization can start early. In addition, the "Assessment Info" page generally includes detailed descriptions of major assignments as well as assignment rubrics. This is a great place for parents to see exactly what is expected of students in any given assignment so you can review your child's work and help them determine if they meet expectations and plan for their next steps in learning. If your family is on a vacation during the school session the web page is a good way to keep informed about missed assignments and upcoming tests. Please be aware, due to the collaborative and constructive nature of teaching and learning, I am unable to provide details regarding lessons/assignments your child might miss in the weeks prior to your departure. If a student must miss a week(s) of classes, the best plan is to check the web site and get caught up when they return. A quick note regarding technology in the classroom. I am a strong advocate of using multiple forms of technology in the classroom; whether it's a document camera for teaching, ipads, laptops or the use of web based programs such as Prezi, I believe each of these allows for a more personalized learning environment in which students can show what they know in multiple formats. In turn, I also recognize that some students prefer pen and paper, creating models, or designing posters. Our classroom is a laptop friendly room. If parents choose, students may bring laptops or notebooks from home to work on projects at school, (a locked closet is available for temporary storage). Laptops can be utilized in all stages of learning whether it's used for 3 days of gathering data for research, or once a week for creating a final performance task. However they are never 'required' nor is a student's success or level of achievement ever dependant on the use of a laptop at school. It is simply an option. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this option for your child. The email link on the homepage is my school email. I generally check it daily and try to respond ASAP. If you need an immediate response to a concern, please leave me a voice message at the school by calling 250-478-5548 ext.256 Finally.... an article that reflects my approach to teaching: You Can Learn Anything And in less than 6 minutes..... one of my favorites.... |
